As an adult preparing for a new career, you have a lot of responsibility and demands on your time. That’s why we offer blended-learning options that are a combination of in-class instruction and independent study.
Other schools had to scramble to pivot their programs to online and blended education during the pandemic—but we were already experts at it. Blended-learning has been our core offering for over twenty years.
You will have four full in-class days per month, either on one day a week or over a four-day weekend once a month, where you’ll will work with your classmates on hands-on skills, learn about the human body, and how to develop a successful career as a professional massage therapist. For the rest of the month, you’ll work from home studying massage theory and the core sciences of Anatomy & Physiology and Pathology using Moodle, our online learning platform.
Whether you choose a weekly or monthly schedule, you are still a full-time student. When you’re away from the campus, you’ll spend an average of 30 hours per week on your independent-study work.
Blended learning at Vicars School
Most of the subjects that you’ll learn as a Vicars student are a combination of in-class instruction and independent study that you complete from home.
You will have four full in-class days per month (you can choose the schedule that will work best for you). When you’re away from the campus, you’ll spend an average of 30 hours per week on your independent-study work.
When you’re on campus, you’ll work closely with your instructors and classmates as you learn hands-on skills in the lab and have lectures and discussions on massage theory. You’ll also have in-class clinics with real clients. Each Vicars class has a maximum of 22 students, so we can ensure that you receive the personalized instruction you need.
When you’re at home, you’ll practice what you’ve learned and prepare for the next in-class session. You will do online quizzes, complete directed readings from your textbooks and access our custom-made videos, recorded lectures, and other online learning resources. You’ll also stay connected to your classmates and instructors using our online learning tools.
Then it’s back to the classroom to put these new concepts into practice!
Is blended learning right for you?
Blended learning may be a good fit if you:
- Want to be a full-time student but can’t be in class every weekday
- Don’t want to have to relocate to get a great education
- Are self-motivated and have good time-management skills
This model is highly flexible and convenient, and it’s an increasingly popular method of education for adult learners. Mature students tend to be very committed to their goals and have developed the necessary organizational skills through their other life experiences, which means they often thrive in this type of learning environment.
Working independently, but never alone
When you become a Vicars student, you aren’t just joining a school: you’re joining a community. You’ll immediately be part of a large and dynamic group of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are all here to support and encourage you as you achieve your dream of a new career.
But nothing will compare to the bonds that you’ll develop with your own instructors and classmates. They will be your teammates and your cheerleaders for your two years in the program. You’ll start to form these bonds on your first day in class, but the support doesn’t end when you leave campus. Our online learning platform allows you to keep in touch with your instructors and classmates so that no matter where you are, your class is only a few clicks away.
As you get further into the program, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet and learn from other instructors and students in other classes. During your supervised clinical experience, you’ll get to learn from every member of our faculty and will work alongside both first- and second-year students from all the other classes at your campus.
